Warner music signs first ever record deal with an algorithm.

The Guardian recently wrote a story about the first record deal ever signed between a big-time label (Warner) and an algorithm (Endel). That's right, a series of code and data has signed a twenty-album deal that will be featured on Amazon through various devices. The algorithm involved is made by a company called Endel, which is a German company that creates music for certain moods based on the time of day, weather, and other more personal data. Let's say it is an overcast afternoon around 3:00 pm and you want to focus for an hour, just ask Alexa to play Endel and it will do the rest! In my quest to search for the future trajectory of the industry, I think that I have found one potential avenue. Maybe in the future, this platform will make even more personalized playlists for any individual that will also include their favorite songs! For instance, Endel could make a playlist for someone called "Feel Like I'm Fifteen Again" which would compile all of the individual's favorite songs and hits from the year that they were fifteen in order to create a strong feeling of nostalgia. Another example could be a playlist called "I Miss My Father" which would compile data from conversations with your father, photographs, and stories about your interactions and create a series of songs that help you remember your parent and celebrate their life. The possibilities are truly limitless and I cannot wait to see how the company evolves! Here is the link to the article if you are interested in learning more:
